As a blogger, I'm no stranger to buying various lotions and potions that claim to do numerous things. However you don't necessarily always have to spend a load of cash to guarantee yourself a quality product. Some of the things you have in your own home can work wonders on your skin, healthy and mentality. Even if you don't already own all these products, they're all very inexpensive.
Vaseline A cult favourite, there's a reason it's been around for so many years. The price of course varies dependent on the flavour and size, regardless, it always remains incredibly cheap. This 100g tub cost me £1.79 and has lasted me ages. It's also a very diverse product; as well as being used for lips, you can apply it to eyebrows to keep stray hairs at bay, eyelashes, dry patches on the skin and also cheekbones, for a 'dewy' effect. I'm sure there are plenty more uses for it but they're the things I use it for.
Water I personally really, really love water. The area I live in has really fresh tasting water so I'm not even sure how many glasses I have a day, but it's a lot! It has so many benefits, from keeping you hydrated and being a natural remedy for headaches, to making skin looks fresh and keeping you alert. I can really notice the difference when I don't drink as much during the day, so it's always a necessity! It's recommended that you aim to drink six to eight medium glasses of fluid daily. Plus, it's not at all costly; so get sipping!
Dry Body Brush This is a real gem. Using a dry body brush on a daily basis is known to have effective results. There are ten key benefits from doing so; stimulating circulation, strengthening the immune system, improving the function of the nervous system, removing dead skin layers, cleansing the lymphatic system, stimulating the hormone and oil-producing glands, tightening the skin whilst toning muscles, removing cellulite, improving the function of the nervous system and finally helping digestion. I'm sure there are plenty of other additional benefits however these are the ones I am aware of. They're very inexpensive too, mine's from The Body Shop, where you can get them for £8. They last for years, so you really do get your value for money with them.
Fruit Admittedly, I probably don't consume as much fruit as I could/should. Despite this, I really do love it. Some people will argue that fruit is quite expensive and although I can't disagree completely, but if you just swap that curry ready meal for a few portions then you're sorted. Supermarkets always have savings on buying fruit, buy one get another half price etc, so you do save quite a bit doing so. I am aware that this is a really boring paragraph so I apologise for this! However I shall cut to the chase; go buy fruit!
Cotton Buds Cotton buds are such handy things to have in your draw. I mainly use them to tidy up any makeup errors such as smudges, however they have many other uses too! Only £1.25 for 200 Johnson's buds. Bargain. Oh, I also got this rather snazzy idea of using used candles as storage from Anna over at Vivianne Does Makeup. Pretty, huh?
Muslin Cloths I've only recently become a fan of using muslin cloths after using Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. They're pretty big in the beauty world as of late, and I can see why. An alternative to wiping off your cleanser with cotton pads, these are just really lovely. There's something more satisfying about wiping off your makeup with one, and they feel wonderfully gentle against your skin. Again, they are very reasonable. I got mine from making orders on the Liz Earle website, where you can pick up two for £4. You can pick them up in a few other places too, such as Marks and Spencers and Mothercare.
Exfoliating Gloves I've been a fan of exfoliating gloves for years. They're cheap, and I find they do a better job than some of the bottled scrubs available on the high street. You can turn any shower gel into an exfoliant when you combine it with these. Although I do like a good luxury scrub, I find these do a better job when you're wanting a deeper exfoliation. There are various ones you can purchase which results in different prices, however I find the pair from Boots do a terrific job, and at £2.69 you really can't complain.
Epsom Salts Last but definitely not least, this is my favourite out of the lot. Epsom salts are so, so cheap yet they have countless benefits. I use the salts for a detoxing soak, and they really work. After bathing, your skin is left incredibly soft. A key benefit is the Magnesium Sulphate contained in the salt, which draws out toxins and water retention. It's recommended that you include the salt in your bath around twice a week to notice the advantages. I normally add two cups of it into the bath and soak for at least twenty minutes. The water immediately feels silky, and upon stepping out of the bath you're left feeling very relaxed. Take it steady when doing so, as you might be more relaxed than you realise! Even after coming out of the bath I tend to sweat quite a lot, but that's a sign that it's working. You can pick this up in Boots, however I tend to just get some from my local health shop. They only cost a couple of pounds so they really are very inexpensive. Epsom Salts also have a number of other uses such a removing splinters, healing bruises, making face masks, volumising hair and and helping with er, constipation. So overall they're a very handy thing to have in your cupboard.
I hope you've found this post helpful and recognised that you don't necessarily have to spend hundreds on beauty products. If you have any items you use that are similar to the above then please share in the comment box!
