Kicking January In The Bum.

We all know it. January is without a doubt, one of the less favourable months of the year. Realistically, when you throw a general lack of funds, post-Christmas blues and cold, dark weather into the mix, what do you expect? But having said this, and without trying to sound too smug, as far as the 2017 opener goes, mine's been pretty swell.

Totally cliche what with it being the start of a new year, but I think it's always good, and beneficial, to try and better yourself, and this past few weeks I've been attempting to do just that. A few cheeky purchases, a few little lifestyle choices and I think I'm taking a step in the right direction.

Lumie Bodyclock Starter 30
First things first, I'd had my eyeballs on a Lumie light for the longest time. With promises to aid sleep and increase energy, despite the somewhat sizeable price tag, I was sold. So I may not have S.A.D (this lil' device is supposedly a winner when it comes to helping to cure the side effects), but I've still found it to come in pretty damn handy. Ok, so unfortunately I still wholeheartedly despise emerging from my slumber first thing on a morning, but what would actually fully help this?

Perks wise, I've really enjoyed waking up to some form of light (though I'm admittedly not a fan of the optional alarm tone... a little too shrill for my liking). It's also emphasised those oh-so satisfying occasions where you wake in the middle of the night and discover you still have 3 hours of cosiness left to enjoy. Additionally, once you've set your morning alarm on an eve, within 30 minutes, it's lights out. Which if you ask me, is a great feature when it comes to encouraging you to swipe off of Instagram and hit the sack. I could go on with my ramblings about it, however I think I may post a more in-depth review seperately to this post so keep your peepers peeled for that!

Gymming it up
As if I couldn't be anymore cliche with the whole 'new year, new me' malarkey, I joined a gym. Yup, I know, *eyeroll*. Sure, I can count on my hands the amount of times I've been, but still, it counts for something, right? I want to try and make a conscious effort to shake my bootaaay 2-3 times a week as I always feel so much better after I've been (we'll see how that one goes...).

Making the most of weekends
Who doesn't love a good weekend? Me and my boyfriend, Matt, have been making a conscious effort to enjoy the outdoors during our time off. Albeit, it's been a tad chilly the majority of the time, but that just makes it all the more fun (providing you don't forget to bring a scarf along for the ride, that is!).

Matt also has a blog (which you should totally go and check out, here) and he has a real knack for picture snapping, so it's been great to head out, explore and get a few photos along the way. Alongside our adventuring, a whole lot of sleeping, chilling and pizza consumption has taken place, and boy-oh-boy has it been grand.

New locks
Y'know when your hair just gets to that stage where it's practically begging you for a trim? Yeah, I'm pretty much there right now. But this is all kinds of ok, as come Thursday, I will be venturing into the hairdressers and hopefully emerging with locks a little shorter and a whole lot more pink. I dabbled with pink hair towards the end of last year, but the results weren't quite as long lasting as I'd hoped, so I'm very excited to give it another whirl!

Get Your Sh*t Together
Pardon my French, but this book is essentially what any human that's struggling when it comes to organisation, needs in their life. Sarah Knight is a no-nonsense, bestselling author, and for good bloody reason. G.Y.S.T is a kick up the backside, 273 times *cough* page count *cough*. I'm still yet to completely finish the book, but it's how I've been enjoying my evenings as of late, which is a whole lot better than my usual, scrolling through Twitter, nighttime routine. I'm hoping by the time I close the book for good (though who am I kidding, I'll totally be re-reading in the not so distant future), I'll have ideas for my blog, and day-to-day life, coming out my ears. Oh, and be able to say my sh*t is a little more 'together' than once before, obviously. Snap up a copy, here.

Here's to a mighty-fine February!

How was your start to 2017? What did you do to banish those dreaded January blues? I'd love to know!

3 Base Products You Need In Your Life.

Ah, the mighty base. The canvas to a makeup look, one could say. Being fair skinned, I've certainly dabbled with a fair few products over the years, and recently (yep, I think I'm gonna go ahead and say it...), I've found three that tick allll the boxes for pale peeps of the world.

For starters, and to keep things in place, the Becca Backlighting Priming Filter. This is basically just all kinds of awesome. Glow? Check. Blurred imperfections? Check. Longevity? Check. The primer pretty much does it all. Though, yes, it has a slight warm undertone in the bottle, when blended into the skin, said warmth is traceless and you're simply left with radiant, diffused skin. It's a yes from me.

At long last. I can hardly believe I'm typing this, but I've finally found a foundation that actually matches my complexion. No orange, no nothin'. The seemingly impossible beauty battle is over. That's right, the Illamasqua Skin Base is in my stash and it's here to stay. With a whopping 26 shades to choose from, I was optimistic, and rightly so. After a visit to the Leeds Victoria Quarter store, the amazing Drew spent a good 10/15 minutes matching me up to my perfect shade, which happened to be 4.5. My skin is on the drier side of things, however I find I can build up this gem without any concern over the finish. It's lightweight, SPF free (buh-bye ghost face in flash photography) and a little seriously goes a long way. So yeah, in case you couldn't tell, I'm sold.

To conceal, it's all about the Bare Minerals BareSkin® Complete Coverage Serum Concealer. This is one I'd heard a whole lot about in the blogging world, so naturally after finishing up my last, I just had to snap one up. Again, concealer can be something I can struggle with. Many are either too cakey, too drying or just a little 'meh' (you know the drill). But this combined with a slightly damp beauty blender ticks all the boxes. A concealer and serum hybrid, it works its magic on dark circles and blemishes, brightening the complexion in the process whilst boasting a long-wearing formula. Oh, and with 6 shades available, Bare Minerals have quite literally got you covered.

Have you tried out any of the above? I'd love to know your thoughts and any base product recommendations you can throw my way!
