Did Someone Say Mermaid Nails?

Alright, so call me a child, but you can't go wrong with a bit of sparkle, right?

My wardrobe is somewhat lacking in the whole colour side of things, so one way I like to add a little somethin' somethin' to my attire is through my nails. Until recently I was a nail biter. Seriously gross I know, but let's throw all the blame onto final year University stress, as since finishing I actually have the things.

Miracles aside, I thought I'd show y'all a little nail combo I've been sporting recently. It's fun, sparkly and, wait for it, lasts longer than five minutes without chipping. Now for me, that is a big deal.

To start things off, I like to reach for Essie's Grow Stronger Base Coat, for obvious reasons. It's a cracking polish to smooth things over, but I find it also really helps to boost the condition of my poor peeling talons.

Next up, and to add a little colour into the mix, I brush on two layers of the Max Factor Max Colour Effect polish in the shade '44 Grafitti' (how rebellious of me, I know). I love this colour on it's own as it's so unusual, and always manages to rake in the complements. I reckon it's one for all skin tones too, so definitely a keeper for the old nail stash.

Now this is where things get real exciting. Say holla to the Orly Lacquer in 'Shine on Crazy Diamond'. Sure, you could rock this on its own, but it's when it's combined with an equally awesome colour that it really, er, shines. Glittery, funky goodness. Darn I'm such a magpie.

Finally, it's time to praise a recent addition to my polish collection. The Bourjois 3D Gel Top Coat is a fairly new launch to the beauty world, and it's serious stuff. This my friends is the secret to a long-lasting manicure. Two days was an all time record for me in the past, but with this? Knocking on a week.  Go buy it at once and thank me later. Trust me, you will.

The first nail-shaped post to ever grace this here blog, and perhaps with my new lengthy (ok, may not just yet) talons you'll be seeing a whole lot more.

What's your favourite polish combo to sport?
