Jamie's Italian

If you're a regular reader of my blog you'll know that this is quite an off topic post for me. However I really felt the need to mention it.
A few weeks ago, myself and my family went to Jamie's Italian in York. Prior to this, we had never been, but due to us all being fans of Mr Oliver, our expectations were high.

The restaurant is quite a new edition to York, however since it's opening it's been unsurprisingly successful. Situated in a prime location of York City Centre, (just off the main shopping street) Jamie's Italian is inside an impressible Grade II listed building, which dates back to the 17th Century.

Apologies for the horrific quality of the photograph, the weather was grim and people kept walking by making it hard to take a good snap!

The moment you enter the restaurant you are greeted by friendly staff who guide you to your table.  The atmosphere within the Italian is evidently warm, with the layout succeeding to create a homey feel.
Whether you're a fan of Italian cuisine or not, I can almost guarantee that you will see something you like on the extensive menu. Additionally, there is also a huge selection to choose from on the blackboard.

Now perhaps it's just because I'm a big kid at heart, but I adore the children's menu.
I am most likely causing a bit of confusion here, so I should probably develop on this matter. The said menu wasn't for me, instead my younger sister. I can eat like a horse, so my eyes were admittedly stuck on the more appropriate options!
Anyway, back to the menu. You may be wondering what the device in the image above, is? Well, to put it simply, it's possibly THE coolest kids menu on the block. Ya-huh, you heard me. Remember reels from when you were a young'un? Well that's how this menu is presented. To be honest, I'm not sure who had the most fun with it out of me and my sister..
This of course would not be a proper review if it didn't feature images of food. I'm writing this at about 10am, and my stomach is now rumbling; oh dear.

To start, I went for the Pumpkin & Smoked Mozzarella Nachos. Now I was just expecting the typical nacho chips you see in a packet of Doritos. But when my plate arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. The nachos had been shaped into little parcels, with the filling placed inside. This combined with the fiery arrabbiata sauce was absolutely divine.

We were also given some homemade bread to munch on between courses. One word, yum.

For main course I went for the Garlic and Rosemary Free-Range Chicken. It was actually so delicious that I ended up gobbling it down exceptionally fast...I was hungry, ok?! The chicken was cooked beautifully, and the tomato, olive, chilli & caper sauce was the perfect combination.
It was clear to see that a great deal of thought had gone into the presentation both of the restaurant and the food. Each member of staff we spoke to were both helpful and bubbly, along with making a fuss of my little sister (which she liked!).
It's also worth adding that the food &drinks are also very reasonable, and the standard of food you receive just makes it more worthwhile.
If you're ever in York and are unsure of where to dine, I would highly recommend Jamie's Italian. There are actually 32 dotted around the UK, along with others Internationally, so perhaps it worth a visit elsewhere, too?!

  4. I really liked Jamie's Italian in Birmingham but will probably go in a smaller group next time. The staff didn't seem too happy that there was a big group of us. My Turkey Milanese was so filling though. And their funky chips were divine!! x
